UX Design

UX Design is something I just couldn't resist. I was working as a Product Owner, but got so interested in the UX of my product that ultimately I knew it was what I wanted to do.

UX Design to me isn't just about how to solve a problem. It's primarily about identifying and understanding the problem in the first place. When I work on a feature, I always take it back to that first step. Who is facing the problem? What is the nature of it? And, crucially, does it exist at all?

I'm fascinated by this process, of first defining the problem space and then designing the best solution for it. I'm also a big proponent of design simply being the process of creating something with intent. Intent is shaped by understanding the user and their pain points, and only when you have that understanding can you create something based on the foundation provided by your understanding.

Although I'm in a leadership position, I still do hands-on UX Design work. You can find a couple of examples of recent projects below. My expertise is in B2B enterprise design, which I think demands a very specific skillset. You have to design both for the individual user and the organisation they're working for. Workflows are long and complex, and designers have to constantly maintain an understanding of the knock-on impacts of each new feature on a very wide and intricate ecosystem. Design patterns are often set before a feature even kicks-off, by the patterns utilised in the rest of the platform, so you are rarely starting from scratch and instead have to work within pre-defined boundaries. Any deviation from those patterns can require a significant investment. Access to users can also be a challenge, and so proxies sometimes have to be relied upon.

These are all things I relish about B2B enterprise design work. It's always interesting, never easy and constantly rewarding.

Whilst I do have plenty of other examples of my work, unfortunately I'm not able to share them publicly. I am, however, happy to share them during an interview.
